The idea of organizing this conference had been conceived by the IWGIA, who wished to explore the status and meaning in applying the concept of indigenous peoples in the African contexts and the extent to which this might contribute to a productive identifications of the nature of problems and predicaments as perceived by particular African minority population themselves.
