Zimbabwe's presidential and mayoral elections in march 2002 once again demonstrated the critical role of the media in the electoral process. The media constitute the primary source of information for the electorate, whose business it is to vote for the candidates of their choice on the evidence available. this is the essence of democracy in practice and illustrates why the media play such an important part in helping the nation decide who should serve them as their leaders.
